My high school students were absolutely thrilled to receive their sketchbooks and have the chance to use their special markers in class. They are not used to being on the receiving end of such a gift epically at the high school level. It truly has made a huge impact on their outlook to know that someone appreciates them and is willing to give a gift that they can use and keep for a life time! Sketchbooks offer a safe space for self-expression, journals and drawing practice. My students surpassed my expectations by redesigning the covers, creating multi media masterpieces and sharing their work with each other. \r\nThese are materials that are beyond my budget and it was a thrill for all of us to open the boxes and unwrap the sketchbooks. I have a handful of students who are struggling with their mental health and coming to school is very challenging. This sketchbook creates the perfect uplifting and exciting platform where they can practice, sketch and catch up on their work at home. Next I'm taking them outside to draw landscapes. I know they'll be happy to get some fresh air and feel the warm morning breeze on their face while they draw trees, birds and structures. There was a flurry of activity as they tested the markers and were amazed by how easy it was to wipe away mistakes and start fresh.\r\n\r\nWe recently used the boards for a complex problem-solving session in math. Instead of being hunched over individual papers, students worked in small groups at their own boards. I watched two students who usually struggle with confidence engage in a heated but healthy debate about a geometry proof. Because the board was vertical and visible to their peers, they started using their whole bodies to explain their logic, pointing and drawing auxiliary lines. This has allowed students to practice with dry erase markers before completing tasks independently, giving them extra confidence and support.\r\n\r\nIn addition, our class has been practicing summarization through one-pagers, which has been highly interactive and especially beneficial for our English Language Learners.
