Survivors, that's what we are!

In August 2017, our small community was devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Our school suffered water damage and we lost furniture and materials.

Six months later, we still aren't in our classrooms at our elementary. I have the sweetest, most resilient group of students who have learned to do school outside of a normal classroom. We are still learning, every day, despite our circumstances! Our students have been very positive and are looking forward to a normal school year, soon.

My Project

Like the commercial saying- "Got Milk?" "Got shelves?" Unfortunately the answer is, no for us. Our shelving units and book shelves absorbed the flood waters and we are starting over.

In a few months it will finally be time to unbox what is left from Hurricane Harvey and we need book shelves for classroom storage.

First grade is the year all students learn to read, well. We've been learning with storing our curriculum books by pilling them on the floor. These book shelves will hold our reading curriculum books and guided reading books. We look forward to getting our books off the floor and properly storing them.
