Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a public charter school in Ohio. Our attendance sits at around 375 students K-6. Our 4th grade consists of two classes of around 50 students. These students are mainly Hispanic who receive ESL services, a large African American population, with a few Somalian, Caucasian, and Asian students as well. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
These students are so eager to learn, but they need additional resources to take their learning to the next level.
The fourth grade students are dedicated to learning but have very limited supplies. Many of the students do not receive help at home. Some of my students have even told me they don't have any books at home! I want to provide these students with as much as possible while they are at school because of their lack of resources and support at home. These donations for supplies will help me to teach and prepare my students for their future education and lives.
My Project
My students are constantly asking me for more "Goosebumps" and "I Survived" books. These two series catch students' attention and keep them engaged and entertained from cover to cover. I want to provide my students with books they want to read.
The best way to become a better reader is by reading.
The more books I can supply them with, the better the chances are of them reading and learning to love to read. These books would be a welcome addition to our classroom library and give my students encouragement to read and get lost in their books. Reading will open a whole new world for them.
