Google, My 21st Century Learners Need a Chromebook
My students need five new Chromebooks to replace their old, outdated computers so they can access Google Docs and the Internet.

My Students
My students are wonderful kids. They are economically disadvantaged. All of them are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. My school has a tradition of being a neighborhood school, but it is now a school in transition. Nearly 1/4 of the families now receive Supplemental Social Security Income or Public Assistance. Our student population is racially and ethnically diverse. Over 20% are in ELL and/or Indian Education or SPED programs. We have students from Somalia, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, as well as Natives from rural Alaska. My students can't afford field trips. School is everything for them.
I have the pleasure of teaching library skills to kids who are trying very hard to learn everything they can under less than ideal circumstances.
My students want to expand their horizons, but they struggle with the special needs and the English language. Many of my kids are the children of deployed military personnel.
My Project
Our school is urban and old. We are designated a high poverty school and all of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. As impossible as it may seem, we are not a Title One school. that means that we do not have access to the resources that other schools have. Several years ago, I was fortunate enough to have a Donors Choose project funded which brought some much needed Chromebooks to the library. Now, those computers are old and five need to be replaced.
My students work very hard and are trying to learn everything they can but they need 21st century technology so they can learn 21st century skills.
My students desperately need five new Chromebooks to replace ones that were damaged because of heavy use.
