My students need Google Chromebooks! Our district recently created a Google account for every child, so now our goal is to have enough Chromebooks for each child to become more technologically literate!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school in sunny Arizona. The majority of my students speak English as a second language, and 100% of my students receive free lunch. Many of them have experienced the difficulties and trauma that can come from living in poverty and struggle to focus on school as a result. That said, my students are some of the brightest, most creative kids you could imagine.
They are becoming quite the talented writers, but unfortunately, many of my students don't have access to computers and internet at home.
As a result, they are not as tech savvy as they need to be to be competitive in the real world. They struggle with basic skills like typing, researching, collaborating and emailing on the computer. We try and get them in the computer lab as often as possible, but with 700 kids on campus and only three available labs, you can imagine it can be quite difficult!
My Project
Our goal this year is to become more technologically literate by using Google Classroom! Students will be using their Chromebooks to research, outline, write, revise and publish their writing! Along the way we will endeavor to improve our typing, researching, collaborating and other computing skills!
Students will use these Chromebooks to research a topic of their choice, analyze sources for bias and find evidence to support their claim.
They will plan their writing, type their drafts and, most excitingly, collaborate and peer review their writing in Google Classroom. They will learn how to submit their paper just like in a college class, and receive feedback from their teacher through Google Classroom as well.
In order to reach our goal we need your help! Our goal is to have enough Chromebooks for every child to connect every day in every class! Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated by these goal-oriented kids!
