This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember sitting in a math class at any point in your life and feeling like every person around you understood something that you could not quite grasp? Well, a number of my 9th and 10th grade students feel this way every day that they enter my class. And the recent shift to remote learning has not helped them feel any more confident in their skill-set.
COVID-19 has severely impacted our school community in terms of academic access and achievement.
While my students are engaging in online-learning, they are facing many challenges. One such challenge is having guardians that are considered essential workers. With their guardians at work, my students are forced to take on the role of being care-takers to their younger siblings. Attending live video class sessions during the day is nearly impossible for them. Hard-working and motivated, my students have asked for additional video sessions late in the evening or videos that they could watch on their own.
My Project
After an entire year of remote learning, our students are preparing to physically return to the classroom. What they will return to is a classroom that has been closed for well over a year and has collected dust and other air pollutants from the construction that has taken place during our absence. A HEPA air purifier will help remove pollutants and other common impurities (including allergens, germs, pollen, odors, dust and mold, and airborne bacteria), leaving us with a clean and healthy classroom.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve our air quality, you will ultimately help give my students and their families peace of mind as they prepare to make the transition back into the classroom.
The daily use of an air purifier in our classroom will reassure my students and their families that we are doing our best to offer a cleaner and healthier learning environment. The replacement filter for this air purifier ensures clean, healthy air for the entire year. My goal is to make my students and their families feel that there are a few extra steps being taken to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 while they learn in my classroom.
