My Project

"Good things come to those that weight" allows students to investigate the laws of physics by using different mass weights. The students will use these weights in physical science, 8th grade science and physics to investigate and gain a better understanding of the laws of force and motion. All students will benefit from the use of weights while exploring mass and measurement unit.

Videos and simulations can't provide the learning that takes place when a student is able to manipulate and observe the laws of force and motion.

As a science department it is our jobs to help our students make sense of the natural laws in our physical world. This is done best with the use of hands-on materials and through experimentation. While most of our students are very appreciative of being at a charter school where they have smaller class sizes, the use of Chromebooks, and an environment that allows the students to be individuals without being singled out for their unique qualities or learning needs, they also enjoy being able to investigate and manipulate science materials.

What better way to plan an investigation then to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object. (MS-PS2-2) then to use actual weights. Students are naturally curious about the world around them and these weights will provide them with a means to investigate the laws of physics. In Space science, weights are used to to measure the force of gravity acting on an object. In physical science weights are used to apply known forces to objects to study their motion, such as in experiments involving inclined planes or pendulums. These weights will allow our students to investigate and experience the laws of science.
