My Students
All of my wonderful students have a speech or language learning disability. They are a hardworking, determined bunch. No matter the obstacle, they continuously rise to the occasion. In March, due to COVID, all of my students began remote learning without any preparation for such a transition. Some lost family members and others became ill themselves. Some students were even essential workers stocking the shelves and checking out customers at supermarkets during the beginning of the pandemic when so much was still unknown. My students come from neighborhoods all over the borough of Queens and some even travel from Brooklyn!
My Project
Since every one of my students is currently learning remotely, it has been difficult to find high interest, relevant materials on their reading level that are easy to share. My students are familiar with Scholastic Scope since we have always used it for in-person learning. This digital resource will provide my students with continuity and increase their level of interest in participating in speech and language therapy. These magazines address so many of their language goals such as sequencing, inferencing, using context clues, recall, retell, making predictions, improving vocabulary, all while providing high-interest material. They will provide my students with a sense of familiarity.
