it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the best. There is nothing more exciting as a teacher than to see the growth of first grade students. At the beginning of the year they "read" a book and 20 seconds later exclaim they have finished reading the book, when in reality, they flipped through the pages. As the year progresses, students begin to really read and read incrementally more difficult books.
I love the energy of my first grade students.
They are happy to be in school and learning. I want to make sure I give all my students every opportunity to learn as much as they can during their first grade experience!
My Project
First-grade is not only about academics. It is important for the students to learn organizational skills. Chair pockets will give students the opportunity to have their own area to organize and have as their own. If students have their own chair pocket, they will take pride in organizing their individual work space.
Currently, all materials are retrieved by a "material manager" who gathers and distributes the necessary supplies for each student.
This takes precious class time and it often ends in chaos. Plus, it does not teach each student personal responsibility and organization. Students currently hang their backpacks on the back of their chairs. The backpacks fall off constantly which causes disruptions throughout the day.
