Good Old Fashioned Games

Help me give my students electronic-free activities. As we return to in-person learning, my students will have two non-instructional blocks per week. I'd like to offer games and activities which do not involve screen time.

My Students

Our high school is what most places call a "magnet school." Students come from all over the city to take a test in order to attend. Our high school is arguably the most racially diverse with about one-fourth of our students being African-American, Asian, Latino, and White.

More than fifty percent of our students are from families below the federal poverty level.

Nonetheless, we have a one hundred percent college acceptance rate. Our students work hard, but they need more than what the district provides.

My Project

Many of us played board games as children, especially on rainy or snowy days. The fun we had could not be replicated by today's internet and ubiquitous electronic devices. I wish to give those same experiences to my students.

As we return to in-person instruction in my district, I want to provide my students with social and cognitive activities far removed from screens and gadgets.

I want them to sit down in person and to problem solve in three dimensions. I want them to unplug and unwind and to get to know their opponents in the games.
