Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, enthusiastic learners, and they love to think outside of the box!
Instead of wrapping up our geography unit with a test, for example, we created 3D maps of our beloved state, painted, labeled and added unique and personal touches that illustrated all we'd learned about maps, landforms and Texas regions.
We concluded our poetry unit by hosting a "poetry cafe," complete with "coffee" (hot cocoa) and rich literature read out loud by our student writers.
My Project
I'm requesting materials to create hygiene kits for upper elementary girls in my school. Many of these young ladies hit puberty by 4th/5th grade and would benefit from having an emergency bag with a travel sized deodorant, lotion, mentrual pads, breath mints, hairbrush/mirror, tissues, and hand sanitizer.
Having the materials to stay neat and put together in school helps build confidence.
Knowing they're prepared will alleviate anxiety for many of these girls and help them become more independent and accountable for personal hygiene - so important with middle school on the horizon!
