I teach in a Title I, public elementary school with about 500 students. Many students are eager to learn and interact daily at school. We keep our class sizes small, with 16-20 students in each classroom in grades K-3. In this way, we can offer as much personal attention to each child's needs as possible.
My students are sweet and full of potential, but the poverty level is high with a 100% free and reduced-price lunch population.
Nonetheless, my school tries very hard to afford all students the same opportunities, no matter what social or economic situation may exist in their lives. All students are offered free breakfast, and we have a teacher-student mentoring program that attends to the primary students' social-emotional needs.
Personally, I take time to get to know each child in my classroom as a whole person. My goal throughout the year is to understand their academic strengths and weaknesses as well as their character strengths and weakness. I love being their friend, teacher, and hopefully a role model.
Engaging, engaging, and did I mention ENGAGING lessons?...These are just a few of the examples of the variety of ways that we will use the new Chromebook in our classroom!
Implementing technology into the classroom, can transform the delivery of a lesson.
However, that is extremely hard to do with only 4 desktop computers
Google Classroom is an amazing platform that I am using in my room. It allows students to work together, communicate with me as well as their peers, and publish their work. Although the students really enjoy being able to work with different technology, we are not able to do it collaboratively. Getting a Chromebook into the hands of EACH of my students is my ultimate goal, but it starts with a few! These 2 Chromebooks are only the beginning.
Part of teaching students in this day and age is realizing that we must prepare them for the 21st-century workplace. Outside of the classroom, most students do not get to engage with technology other than a simple cell phone. The more my students can become versed on the many offerings of computers and website such as Google, the more practice they receive at becoming college and career ready!
