My Students

As a school counselor, I serve all kindergarten through second grade students. With a diverse socioeconomic population, the one thing that all of these students have in common is their love of technology

Our school is a Title 1 school where most students live in a low socioeconomic situation.

Many students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch.

Walking down the halls of our school, you will see happy, smiling faces of precious children as well as a loving group of educators.

My Project

To promote social emotional learning my students need a play kitchen set to add to our play therapy room. The use of real-life toys are important to allow the child to play in noncommittal ways without revealing feelings. As children feel safe in an authentic play therapy relationship they will begin to use real-life toys to express feelings more fully. Real-life toys can provide direct expression of feelings such as anger, fear, sibling rivalry, crises, and family conflicts. The addition of this kitchen set would add a much needed family dynamic element to our group and individual play therapy sessions.
