Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager learners who enjoy school. They come from a low income urban community and many are first-generation Americans. They are active learners who are curious about the world around them and are always asking questions and looking for connections between ideas and their own life. Many of my students spend extended hours at school in the after school program. They often lack access to books and computers at home. Our school is a Title 1 school with all students receiving free school lunch.
My Project
My students spend about 80% of the day on the rug but it isn't always the cleanest space. The rug is where they relax and read books, where we work together to solve problems, and where we hold morning meetings to share about our day and feelings. However, its often days and days before it gets vacuumed and it can attract a lot of dust and dirt. A vacuum in our classroom will allow for the rug to be cleaned daily and students will have a clean place to work that is free from dust and allergens. It will create a better learning environment for everything from literacy to mathematics.
