My students are very eager to learn and engage in their work throughout the school year. This school year, I am blessed to have a group of 25 higher level students who are in my classroom for half of the day, building and strengthening their reading and writing skills. My students are inquisitive, engaged in their own learning, and compassionate.
In my classroom, it is my goal to make their experience fun, engaging, and a safe atmosphere for my students to come and learn and grow.
My students look to me to provide them with this, as this is not always the environment they return home to each night. It is my hope that through this project I will be able to continue to do just that. By providing my students with different opportunities to learn, I am creating an environment that will help them want to become lifelong learners.
Teaching about character isn't always easy when you're talking to a seven year old. Many times, students don't truly understand the message you are getting across when you're explains what it means to be a good person. I have come to love character education children's books because it puts the message into the perspective of a child.
Building good character takes time.
By having a library filled with character education books, I will be able to address many issues as they arise with the assistance of a book that will help my students relate to the topic at hand. This provides a more calm environment without students feeling as though they're being called out for their behavior.
These books are thorough and expressive and give students a kind reminder of what they should be acting like both in school and at home.
There books are great talking points throughout the year, as I can refer back to different topics and remind students what we learned about them. Although I am "just" their teacher, it's important that I help to teach them basic life skills and remind them to always be the best version of themselves.
