Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My student-athletes are an amazing group of youngsters that have thrown their hats in the golf arena, all 15 of my inaugural golf teams boys and girls have never played the game before this year.
Yet they continually come to practice to get better every day.
That in itself is a victory for me as a coach. These kids work hard and that is a skill that is directly transferable to their college or career ambitions. This is how we can affect have we wish to see in the world. We get the chance to give these kids exposure to something they had never considered up until now.
My Project
My student-athletes come from a small farming community in Central California. This is our first year ever fielding Varsity Girls and Boys Golf in our 95+ year history. Most of the schools in our league have many more resources than we do making it a competitive disadvantage for my boys and girls when we tee it up. Both my teams are amazing. They compete against schools with more resources and bigger athletic budgets, yet never complain, they just work to get better.
We need bottoms for our uniforms, we need practice equipment, i.e.
golf balls, training balls etc. I am writing to ask help in acquiring the necessities to truly compete. Since this is our first year competing, our budget is extremely limited. My athletes come from modest households that do not see athletics and apparel as a must have. This equipment will do more than just outfit my golf teams, the students will display team and school pride, but more importantly, keep these student-athletes occupied learning a game that can be passed on to their kids in the process. A donation like this is two-fold you can help create team pride but also assist on a philanthropic level.
