This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am currently working with middle school students (8th grade specifically) in efforts to prepare them for high school and increase graduation rates. This is a grant program new to APS so while we have been granted some funding to help us launch, my painted picture for these students is much bigger. We all know freshmen year is pretty much make it break it for a lot of teenage students. With the release of responsibility as they enter in to young adulthood and the pressure of their peers in many different forms, our goal is to empower, encourage, and inspire these young students while building their confidence, working on social norms and really thinking about their futures. We want to do this by hosting events that will also encourage families to get involved and stay involved with their students education. Events like snack n paint focusing on etiquette and mannerism when entertaining or hosting for guest. Selfie night to build on self love, self care, and self awareness and family game night or family movie night to encourage family engagement. The funds would be used to purchase painting supplies, board and card games, selfie photo props and back drops, transportation and snacks. Often times children don't do well in school because they are hungry. I believe keeping snacks available will help reduce distraction in the class room and bring more focus. If donating money is not your thing, gently used or new goods will be just as great! Thank you all!
