Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Welcome to our school! We are a Title I elementary school in a low-income urban neighborhood, educating students from kindergarten through 5th grade. Our children may not have much, but they are kind, inquisitive, and love to learn.

The school is the heart of the community, and our library is the heart of the school.

As the librarian, I do my best to fill my students' lives with quality books, the joy of reading, and tools for learning.

My Project

Our district has been distance learning since the school year started, and we do not yet know when we will return in-person. Every class in our school attends library virtually once each week. In library class, we share read-alouds, have in-depth discussions, and develop research skills.

As soon as these books arrive, I will use them as the foundation for lessons on the current pandemic.

Having read many books by this author and publisher, I know they will make a complex subject understandable for my young students. I will team up with our school counselors to address the subject in a way that will be empathetic to those students affected by the coronavirus. When we return in-person, these books will be available for students to check out and take home to share with family members.
