Our students are primarily Filipino or from a variety of other Asian countries. They are inquisitive, bright and always looking for new experiences. They are from a lower to middle class socio-economic background and as such, don't always have access to the full range of activities that other students may have.
Our remarkable students truly appreciate and benefit from any and all experiences that are afforded to them.
Our school is fairly no-frills without the expertise of specialty teachers such as P.E., art or computers. They have limited choices for extra curricular activities and interests. We are trying to change this by affording them the chance to experience museums, theaters, and outdoor endeavors. We feel we have been successful to a certain extent, but we are always trying to continue and improve upon our students' educational opportunities.
My Project
Our students (known as our little "Pintos") are a dynamic and creative group. They enjoy watching, reading and acting in plays. Their faces light up whenever we have the opportunity to present classroom plays.
Three years ago, a new and talented teacher joined our faculty.
Each year, Ms. W. not only has our students write their own scripts, but also has them involved in every aspect of the play's production. They are busy writing, acting, designing sets, and also costuming and into technology. So far, our students have been involved in the productions of the "Wizard of Oz" and "Alice in Wonderland." This year they will be preforming in "The Little Prince."
This yearly event has ignited their desire to watch and enjoy other plays on a professional level. Most of our students have parents that both work and many work two jobs. They don't have the time or resources to attend plays. A grant from "Donor's Choose" will be a dream come true for our little actors and stage helpers.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Hunter and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
