Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students attend elementary school in East Boston. Our student population is diverse in every sense of the word. We have families from all over the world and many of our students are bilingual. They are curious and eager learners who love to come to school every day. Our school is considered low-income and has been hit hard with budget cuts for a few years in a row and therefore, we can't afford many of the materials we deserve. Our families and teachers are deeply engaged and committed to ensuring their children receive the best education possible. This year my Inclusion Special Education classroom includes a variety of different special needs.

My Project

One of the greatest challenges students faced during remote learning this spring was not having access to the collection of resources present in our classroom. Children need access to tools and supplies to help them learn and grow.

Math manipulatives such as money and base ten blocks will help children engage with mathematics at home.

Number cubes will help children play games with their families and each other over Zoom. And card stock and lamination pouches will help me get games and reference charts into their hands.

Sand, whiteboards, and art supplies will help students engage with English Language Arts. From making words to engaging with texts, these supplies will help us read, write, and learn new words.
