This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a literacy teacher in a Title I school. I have acquired English Language Learners within my classes and need resources to build comprehension of the English Language. I am requesting a variety of activity centers to assist them in "catching up" with their middle school peers.

My students work hard and often support their mothers and fathers by running household errands and watching younger siblings.

Unfortunately, another thing that my students have in common is that their families are struggling financially. Within my school the majority of the students qualify for the state's free or reduced meal program. Some students even reside in shelters. Due to the budget cuts schools are facing, teachers in my school are no longer able to personally give each student the resources they desire. Supplying my students/classroom with activity centers will would be a small step, but it would give us one less obstacle to overcome.

My Project

In order to motivate and engage my new students I need tools to meet their language learning needs. I am requesting a variety activity centers including building comprehension skills, an inference center, reading skills cards, etc. Students will be able boost reading skills with 8 key strategies including summarizing, asking questions, to making predictions. In the inference center students will apply reading skills to play detective and piece together clues from the story line and as a result students will become more attentive readers. I am also requesting write and wipe activity cards where students can highlight vowel sounds, the main idea, idioms and so much more!

Please help acquire these learning centers and put our English Language Learners on the fast track to mastering comprehension skills.
