Going Green With Computers on the Scene

My students need one laptop computer to be used daily as an instructional and writing tool.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Going green! We want to make it happen. According to Green Answers, "The average student produces about 320 pounds of paper waste each year." That's about 3 trees for each of my 24 students. My pupils want to help save the environment by using computers daily for instruction and writing activities.

My second graders are an energetic group of inner-city, young scholars who are eager to learn in an interactive, hands on environment.

They attend an affiliated charter school in California with an emphasis on math, science, and technology. Throughout the year, they will be exposed to a myriad of learning experiences that will help narrow the learning gap and bridge the digital divide.

My Project

My students enjoy using technology as a tool for learning. They seem to be more productive on the computer than writing in a journal or using a workbook. However, there are not enough computers in my classroom for every student to spend quality time each day. My classroom has five desktop computers that are over eight years old. Students must rotate 4 times in a day to use a computer. Sometimes the computers work, sometimes they don't. I am requesting one Hp laptop computer for my students to use daily. My students will minimize the amount of paper being used, be able to access information on demand, study curriculum, take notes, and write more effectively. And in the process, they will save many trees.

A laptop computer will offer my students portability.

They will have access to technology and a world of educational resources throughout the day without being tethered to one area in the classroom. They will learn new skills and concepts from various sources, do less pencil and paper tasks, and save many trees. Your donation will help us reach our goal.
