Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I want graphic novels for our summer school students with titles recommended by the American Library Association. These will provide students with the opportunity for independent reading and participation in our summer reading program.

Graphic novels are real novels that benefit a diverse group of readers, including, reluctant, struggling, visual, English language learners, and advanced.

Most students are reading below grade level and these graphic stories are high quality, engaging, and full of text to decode and analyze. This project will help build important skills for our students. Graphic novels support visual literacy, sequencing, vocabulary, and independent reading. Summer reading programs and access to appealing reading choices help children make reading a permanent part of their daily routine.
