This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." History is an important subject. It's hard to learn about it without any maps, globes, and only a boring history textbook to read. Our classroom needs world history resources to make events of the past come alive.
My awesome 7th grade students attend a public middle school in a high-poverty area of Northern California.
Their family lives are often chaotic, with parents working long shifts. Frequently, many of these 12 and 13 year old students have to take care of themselves and babysit younger siblings.
My Project
History has been skipped over by many elementary teachers because of the ever-increasing pressure for students to perform well on the English and mathematics standardized tests. Most of these students come into 7th grade with extremely minimal exposure to history and geography. As a history teacher, I want to combat this lack of historical background knowledge with as many resources as I can provide.
Students get a strong idea of the history of a place by studying its maps.
Having a globe and a world map to reference helps students place current and historical events into a global context. These resources will be used in our classroom every day. Please help add these important resources to our classroom!
