Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district where my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of them are being raised in single parent households or by other family members. 100% of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. These factors, along with many other things, prevent my students from having opportunities and life experiences many of us see as "typical". Despite these many challenges, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences, that they most likely wouldn't receive outside the walls of our classroom.
In our classroom, we are a FAMILY!
Life outside of school may be hard, may be frustrating, and may be scary, but once they walk into my room, I want them to feel safe and loved, so that their main focus is on being able to learn. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experiences throughout the school day! Through positive and meaningful experiences, I hope to inspire them and teach them ways to be successful both academically and in life experiences.
My Project
We will be able to strengthen our math skills by having books that support our curriculum, and with two Chromebooks with cases, charging station and headphones that will allow our students to practice basic math computation throughout the whole year. We also need a book of timed Math practice drills
With the Chromebooks, students will be able to utilize math programs that specifically work on basic math facts and problem solving skills.
This will give students the opportunity to navigate through helpful sites in Math Stations. Basic facts are the foundation for all math, and are a huge factor in determining whether someone is successful in math throughout life. Facts can become a burden if all you is drill and kill. With these Chromebooks, we will be able to take our math skills to a whole new level, all while having a lot of fun!
