My students need a big-screen projector with a tripod screen and computer speakers to learn with digital resources rich with the visuals, sounds, and connections needed for academic success.
Almost there! Thanks to state funding, our school was equipped with Wii-Fi last year. With a used iBook in hand our teachers want to take classroom teaching to the 21st Century level, "to go digital" & teach with innovative technology across the curriculum. Missing: the LCD projector, screen & audio.
41% of our student body are ELL students who speak close to 20 different home languages and dialects, well above our district average.
55% of our students speak English at home. 77% of our students receive free & reduced lunch reflecting the socio-economic composition of our neighborhood school. Many of our students do not have computers and/or internet connections at home and the opportunity to learn with technology in the classroom presents a "level playing field".
My Project
Imagine the educational potential of using digital, interactive visualizations to model and teach new cross-curricular concepts, brainstorming and analyzing complex projects or ideas, interviewing a subject matter expert, imagine the "ah-ha" effect of connecting real-life examples with textbook learning. Imagine taking your class on virtual field trips, going on learning expeditions beyond school walls, in the neighborhood, in our city, in the US, or somewhere in the world, right there on the big screen, in the classroom. Imagine showing & sharing student slide shows, field trip pictures/videos. These are just some of the incredibly powerful teaching and learning tools available through 21st century technology. In a school as diverse as ours, in our OPEN-CONCEPT school without walls, an LCD projector with speakers and a projection screen will add an exciting, new dimension to student learning with educational, social, and economical benefits unattainable with overheads and paper hand-outs.
Current (& future) district/school budget curtailments have greatly diminished funds for the purchase of traditional teaching resources, textbooks, copy paper.
Funds for field trips by bus have vanished. With our budget in shambles, the gift of an LCD projector and a portable projection screen will enable us to bring many important components of classroom instruction to a digital level, to set the stage for exciting and meaningful learning experiences by bringing the world to our students!
