There are many different ways that student process concepts that are learned in the classroom. Some of the best ways that students learn is by hands on experiences. Unfortunately, when it comes to teaching about 3-D shapes, there's just not enough shapes to go around for students to work with.
My school is located in a high poverty district in Illinois.
I currently have 23 students in my classroom. My students really work hard to gain as much knowledge as possible. A lot of my students learn best by hands on activities which helps take their learning to the next level.
My Project
Right now in my classroom I only have 1 set of 3-D shapes that my students are able to use to understand what vertices, edges, and faces are. What I am hoping to do with your help is to give students the chance to work in groups to visualize and manipulate the shapes to help them understand these key vocabulary concepts. I also think to help elevate their learning to the next level is to give the students a chance to build and create their own 3-D shapes so they can put into practice what they are learning.
I think overall, my students will absolutely love the chance to have shapes they can use and manipulate while we are learning about 3-D shapes.
This will help students visualize, manipulate, and create structures that are 3-D, that they didn't have before.
