This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach an all girls class, which allows me to have deep meaningful conversations about challenges that are unique to them. Among their challenges, attendance is an issue they struggle with. I would hate for their menstrual cycle, or the lack of access to hygiene products, to be another reason that contributes to them missing school.

My girls face so many challenges that I try to help them navigate; providing them with necessary basic feminine care products is something simple I can do to make their lives easier.

Sometimes girls ask to go to the nurse or go home due to stains on their clothes or they don’t have pads. Many of my girls also play sports. Having period underwear will help my student athletes provide them with extra protection and will also allow me to have on hand in case of stains and “accidents.” The period bags will allow the girls to carry their feminine products discreetly so they are not embarrassed when they ask to go to the restroom in their other classes.

Please help me provide the basic feminine care for students in need. Having access to these products will have a positive impact on their attendance and confidence.
