This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Practice makes perfect" was the mantra that was drilled into my brain when I was growing up. As a teacher in today's unique classroom, I thoroughly believe this is still true for all subjects in school--including the use of computers.
Many of our students are considered "economically disadvantaged"; their parents are working multiple jobs to make ends meet.
Computer access is obviously very limited, an Internet access is far from convenient. We are trying to prepare our students to be competitive in the world, but this is hard to do when they lack the tools to even try to keep up. Our school is working to help the students without these tools to have more computer and Internet access available in our classrooms. If we have notebooks like the one I have requested, students will be able to word process and research with little inconvenience. In addition, we hope that providing them with more computers will both improve their academic performance, and increase their interest in learning.
My Project
I am a History teacher. More computers in my classroom will provide endless opportunities to enhance my curriculum. Students can research countries on other ends of the globe with little more than a click of the mouse, they will be able to more easily create group projects using Google Docs, and there will be no printing problems because documents can be saved on-line. This is just the beginning too. Students will be able to use the notebook to check their grades on-line (this will help them stay more connected to their learning), and they will be able to practice making spreadsheets and creating Power Point type presentations... Any time I offer computers in my classroom, the students get so excited, and I'm hoping to latch on to this emotion as often as possible to make the learning more worthwhile throughout the year.
On behalf of my students and my classroom, I thank you in advance for considering donating to this project.
I promise that I will do my best to use this notebook to make learning more meaningful for my students. They will be so very excited to have this tool, and you can be certain this will go to good use. Thank you again for your generosity, and I hope you choose my students.
