Help me give my students more graphic novels to read. Even the most reluctant readers enjoy graphic novels. We can't keep the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dogman books on the shelves.
I teach at a wonderful elementary school. We are a K-5 school that has been in our community for 18 years. We are dedicated to working with our community to make this a great place to learn.
Every classroom is literacy rich and engaging.
Our staff is full of amazing, dedicated teachers. The school opened its doors in 2001 and was named after a woman who left her mark on many generations of students as a teacher from 1922-1956. Our school is diverse. One-third of our students are white, one-third Hispanic, the other one-third is made up of black and multi-cultural. We live very close to an active community filled with businesses and other schools.
I want to create book access for all students at my school. Each year more and more students are looking to read graphic novels. These novels encourage even the most reluctant readers.
My Project
Help me fill my library shelves with these amazing graphic novels. When students enter the library the first thing they ask me is where are the Dogman and Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. Even students who are just starting out learning to read want these exciting well known titles.
The 3rd-5th graders are looking for those higher leveled yet still engaging graphic novels.
I love that they are still pushing themselves as readers while finding books that they enjoy.
I want the students at my school to have more choices when they visit the library and not have to wait for these books to be returned.
