Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a visual arts teacher in a high needs school. I teach grades 3-5. My classes range from inclusion, advanced, to special education. I service the entire school for art.

My students lack resources for visual art due to lower budgets allocated to the arts this school year. My students love science and as the arts teacher I work closely with the science teacher to create projects that will further their understanding of what they learn in science; however, after the costs of ordering the basic essential materials for an arts class, there is no funding left to supplement those materials to generate projects and learning experiences that add value to the expected drawing and painting.

Your donation will, in effect, allow me do a unit on making drawings using magnetic energy and iron particles. Students will paint their paper with a thin glue, place their magnets behind the paper and sprinkle iron particles over the surface. Once their paper is dry, they will have a charged visual surface. We will then paint these surfaces with glow in the dark paint.

Your donation will give students a greater understanding of stored energy and magnetics and how art and science can be related. I have done this project before and students are amazed by it.
