Help me give my students resources for a "Glow Day" room transformation with black lights, neon tape and cups, clipboards and a wireless doorbell to get their attention back.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my students and me. I became a Special Education Teacher because of a boy, who has autism, that I tutored. He opened my eyes 16 years ago into a world that I have fallen in love with. Actually before him, I didn't even know there were classes called "special ed." Because of this young boy, I am here now, 14 years strong, teaching these exceptional students to become life-long learners and to persevere through their hardships.
Teaching isn't an easy job; however, the smiles, the laughs, the light bulb moments are all positive signs that I am reaching each one of my leaders.
My classroom is full of eager leaders. They come to school to learn, play, and create. My leaders' needs vary in severity and area. They may have behavioral needs, academic needs, and/or social needs - each as unique as the individual learner. However, their ambitions and desires are no different than their typical peers. We are different but not less. Please join me in supporting our future leaders!
My Project
Envision yourself walking into a room, completely dark. The walls and windows have been covered in black paper. The lights are off. What's going on? The look of curiosity fill all my leaders' faces. Then in a flash, black lights turn on, and everything is glowing: signs, paper, hats, tape, the KIDS, etc!
After the shock, you hear it: the hollers, screams, and "oh my gosh" because they know today is going to be like no other!
I am requesting a variety of resources to make this "Glow Day" happen. We need black lights, flash lights, and neon tape, hats, and paints to pull this room transformation off. I have already purchased glow-in-the-dark lights (thanks to the Halloween clearance last month) which will be used for games like tic-tac-toe, and spelling out spelling words. The materials will be used for center activities which will include learning about perimeter and area in math, creating a narrative story for writing, and learning about space for science. The clipboard will allow students to move around the room to work and the wireless doorbell will allow me to call my leader's attention back to me.
