My students are 6th graders who love to be challenged and engaged. They are naturally curious pre-teens who love a good mystery or problem-solving activity. Fun, exciting lessons are an absolute necessity for them. My goal is to make the concepts I am teaching fun, interesting, and relevant so that they want to learn the material I am teaching (and maybe sometimes don’t even realize they’re learning due to the fact that they are actually enjoying themselves). As a teacher, nothing is better than an enthusiastic student. These kids are just waiting for me to provoke their enthusiasm!
My Project
I recently did a survey with my classes to find out how they feel that they learn best. Almost all of them said group work and games. My students deserve a teacher who is enthusiastic. I want to make learning so much fun that they may not even realize they are actually learning.
I can already imagine the eye rolls and sighs I would get if I told my students that we would be doing a writing boot camp ... but this won't be just any writing boot camp, it will be a GLOW IN THE DARK writing boot camp!!
With the blacklights, I plan on color coding information so that they can have a fun, memorable, and engaging way to learn how to properly construct sentences, paragraphs, and organize entire essays.
These materials will be used again when we review the concepts we have learned this year. We will do glow in the dark Jenga, glow in the dark bowling, and will have a glow in the dark ring toss. Each of these games will require them to answer questions, recall information, and work together toward a common goal.
