My Students
Developmental kindergarten is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a paintbrush or sound out words. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and dance.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
Through our morning meeting time, we get to know one another and learn how to show empathy towards our peers. We are working on building our character, our social emotional skills and our intelligence through a developmentally appropriate kindergarten programs.
My Project
Students in kindergarten are learning new things at a rapid rate, but they also like to have fun. I read a blog online where a classroom celebrated learning in their classroom, by having a glow day. They lit up their classrooms with black lights for the day and only did activities that they could do under the glow lights. The kids had a blast. I would love to be able to provide my students with a flipped classroom for the day and only learn under the black lights.
When students have experiences that are out of the norm, they remember them for years.
I would like to provide my students with a day of learning fun that they will not soon forget. Utilizing highlighters and black lights will make handwriting for the day so much more fun. Taping ten frames on the carpet and using glow in the dark stars and dice will allow students to practice numbers. Glow cards will allow them to practice playing games and develop social skills The materials received, should this project be funded, will be reused year to year and can be shared with other classrooms within my school.
