Help me give my students the supplies needed to ensure they stay hydrated and hygienic while clearing up the waterways for our community service event- Baynanza.
My students are inquisitive and engaging 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, and most of them are from families, who are low socio-economic backgrounds. Every year on a Saturday, I have students volunteer to participate in Baynanza. Baynanza is a county wide initiative to encourage people to volunteer to clean up the waterways from pollution. It is difficult for parents to transport their child to the event, so I rent a bus to pick us up at the school. Unfortunately, parents have to contribute to pay for the bus, but the bus is not our only expense. With your help, we will be able to provide so much more to students at the event to ensure they are healthy and hygienic whole they collect trash.
With your help, our volunteers will work safely with gloves, sunscreen, and insect repellant, and students will have water, popsicles and Kool-Aid jammers drinks to keep them hydrated.
All students will be getting a water bottle with their name on it to use to get Gatorade from the large igloo cooler. Using the igloo cooler reduces trash from individual Gatorade bottles. Working in groups, students will be assigned an area to clean up. Each group will have several trash bags and a trash picker tool. After we have cleaned up, we will have the students enjoy a picnic with the blankets and chips. These items will be given at no additional cost to my students with your help. Your donation will go a long way to help me teach good citizenship and community service to my students.
