Help me give my students access and necessary electronics for the International GLOBE science program where they will collect & report real life measurements and data to NASA to help improve scientific databases from all over the world.
This will not only help my current students but it will help my future students as well. As I cannot tell you much about the personalities of my future students, allow me to educate you on the types of students I am receiving. I am in a lower funded School Corporation, with a large rate of free and reduced lunch students. My students come in not having knowledge about the world or access to much technology at home. Part of my job as a teacher is to teach fundamentals of Technology, since these students don't have consistent access to computers. However, they have a need and hunger to learn. Whenever technology is used, they are enthralled with it, especially when they get to interact with it . My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, interactive, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the classroom and show learning objectives through different ways! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take chances in order to grow both personally and academically. They allow me to introduce something new that I'm excited about; a new strategy, technology, or project.
My students will learn about different sections of Earth science using the tablets to access the GLOBE science application where we will collect real-life data around Northwest Indiana and transmit it back to NASA where they will then collect the data for a database and report back to us about their satellite findings of the same information and time that we report our data. This will help students see the real world application of data and understanding math concepts such as right triangles and calculating the height of trees using protractors and line of sight. Students will be able to see how data is used on a global scale.
