Help me give my students the opportunity to experience first hand the real-world benefits of an authentic reading text through Chez Nous, Allons-y! and Bonjour Scholastic magazines.
I teach highly motivated, eager and loving 14 to 18 year old students in an urban setting. My school is an optional program that draws from all over the county. My students come from many different backgrounds. One of the main goals in our district is to provide students with a diverse learning environment that encourages students to understand and respect that their peers may not look exactly like them and that there is beauty in learning how we are all different, and to respect that we all come from diverse backgrounds.
As my school is a top performing school in our district, we receive some of the least per pupil funding and are often left depending upon donations from alumni and the community, or we have to fund-raise in order to provide our students with educational opportunities that will enhance their learning experiences and challenge them to reach their highest potential.
Through world language learning, my students are able to continue their understanding of the global world in which they live and experience life from new perspectives. This opportunity affords my students a glimpse into what the world is like outside of their own community.
My Project
The Scholastic magazines, Bonjour, Allons-y and Chez Nous will offer my students authentic reading opportunities geared for their ability levels and are age-appropriate readings that my students will find interesting and empowering. They will actually be capable of understanding the topics that are presented because the readings are chosen based on my students actual language levels and the topics and graphics make reading more fun so that students are excited about their learning.
Once my students have experienced their first edition of this magazine, they will be eagerly awaiting the arrival of each of the five installments throughout the school year.
