This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach first grade in the small town of Holly Hill, South Carolina. My classroom consists of 16 first graders, most of whom come from a high poverty area. My students are caring, curious, and full of life!
My students are all unique learners with diverse backgrounds, which makes our classroom such a special place.
My goal is to continue catering to their eagerness to learn and discover more about the world. I can do this by providing my students with the opportunity to work in a safe and welcoming environment which targets their diverse needs. Some of the opportunities that would highly benefit my students include personalized learning through a broadened perspective. In this way, I can successfully encourage open-mindedness and positive character education because my students have the books and supplies they need to learn more about the world around them.
My Project
Supporting my students in adopting a global perspective will enrich their learning experience. As technology advances, our world becomes smaller and the importance of understanding other cultures increases. The Children of the World book set will provide my students with the insight and awareness of the world around them so that they can advance through life as global, culturally-responsive citizens. In addition to the books, the picture globe will enhance my students' understanding of their own geographic location and its relationship to other countries around the world.
The touch and read phonics book sets, magnetic letters, whiteboards, and erasers will support my students in developing early literacy skills during guided reading and small group instruction.
The organizational materials such as the storybook shelf, file folders, and rolling storage caddy will ensure all of my students' instructional materials and tools are readily available and organized throughout the day.
