My Students

I teach a Special Education Self Contained Life Skills classroom. My students have disabilities like Autism, Intellectual Disability, seizure Disorders and many others.

My students are amazing.

They may have disabilities and struggle in many areas but they each hold a special place in my heart. One of my students knows the words to so many songs and has a beautiful voice. Another one of my students has amazing artistic abilities and can draw so many pictures from memory where it looks like he traced them. Each of them is talented in their own way.

My Project

Along with all of the amazing traits they bring to the classroom daily, they have struggles too. All of my kids love to rock in a chair. Rocking and swinging are usually very sought after sensory needs in children with Autism. They can work hard but they need many sensory breaks throughout the day. A glider/rocker would help my students meet some of their overwhelming sensory needs. When students are allowed the opportunity to meet their sensory needs, they are then able to focus and their minds are ready to learn.
