My Project
These glazes will help students who are learning to make pots explore glazes that will help them understand materials and chemistry in ceramics. Glazes, which create glossy, matte, or textured finishes, are made from minerals, oxides, and silica that react during firing. By experimenting with different glaze compositions, students learn about melting points, color changes, and surface effects. They can mix their own glazes, testing how temperature and kiln atmosphere affect results. Layering glazes or using techniques like dipping and spraying deepens their understanding of glaze application. This hands-on experience helps students connect artistic choices with scientific principles, enhancing their craftsmanship and material knowledge.
