Most of my students have suffered various degrees of trauma, from losing a parent, sibling, or friend to violence to becoming homeless. They try their best to deal with it all while have a learning disability and meet the demands of middle school.
School provides a safe space and allows students to be kids, leaving behind the anxiety they often face beyond our campus.
When given the opportunity, my student persevere and reach high standards they often set for themselves.
We need to remember the powerful advantage of having good tools in the classroom.
Yes, there are inferior pencils!
As a teacher supporting students in Writer's Workshop, empowering our burgeoning writers with tools they can use such as a good pencil, pen, and a sturdy journal can make a difference. In all honesty, we tend to enjoy writing more if our journal is not falling apart and our pen or pencil feel good in our hand.
These basic tools will give my students a much needed head-start as they embark on their journey of writing. Please help me inspire my students.
