My Project
Expressing our thoughts and ideas is an essential part of being human. Students who struggle significantly with writing and reading have so much of the ability to express themselves. Using a high-quality recorder can help improve this situation in so many ways. First, it allows them to express ideas without the initial burden of writing. Next, it helps them access the technology more effectively, and finally, it provides the teacher a method to create audio companions to textbooks and other materials.
While my student's writing is very simple and lacks a lot of detail, their storytelling ability is generally relatively rich and detailed, making recording their thoughts a great resource.
Having them record their spoken stories and then using that as a template to write created much richer and more vivid stories.
Many of my students have issues with speech and clear articulation. The microphones built into their Chromebooks simply do not have enough clarity to make things like dictation work. By attaching a high-quality device to their Chromebooks it makes these technologies much more accessible to students.
Finally, The device can easily be used by me or my paraprofessionals to record the texts being used in class and share it with the students so they can listen as they follow along. Our struggling readers miss so much of the content locked in the text that is inaccessible to them. We hope to free this information for our students.
