Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My co-teacher and I will teach about 30 students in the Bronx. Our class is a mixture of students with special educational needs and students classified as general education.
Our students get very excited about learning, especially learning about the past, when we put it in context with all that is happening in the world today.
My Project
Do you remember the thrill of getting Scholastic Magazines each week? Scholastic news and Storyworks both make learning feel easy, and are aligned to the standards that students must learn at each grade level.
Fourth graders are at the age where they are waking up to the world around them.
My students are invigorated when reading and having discussions about what is going on in the world, and in our past. This year, our students will learn about the American Revolution, slavery, Native Americans in New York, and the Holocaust.
We will use these magazines as a springboard into discussing the world around us.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
