Giving Students with Autism the Chance to be Independent Learners!
Help me give my students the educational system Osmo, noise cancelling headphones, and a vibrating pillow! I teach in an inner city self contained autism classroom and need help getting my students resources they can use easily!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The program Osmo was an educational learning game I was introduced to when I was teaching in the suburbs. When I made the transition to the inner city, the resources that were provided were not completely suitable for my students, especially our non-speaking friends. I teach in a self-contained classroom with grades three through five. My goal is to give these children a better education and a sense of independence!
I believe that this program will allow my students to develop their skills independently.
The vibrating pillow I am asking for is specifically for one of my students who has high sensory needs, especially when stimming or getting overwhelmed. The noise-cancelling headphones would give each child the independence to block noise out, especially when a student is having a meltdown. Although many of my students are non-speaking, they are not mute. Many students yell throughout the day or make loud noises when trying to communicate.
