Giving Students the Power to Self-Regulate

Help me give my students a bean bag lounger, a place where they can self-regulate and get their minds ready to learn again.

My Project

There isn't a day that goes by that my students don't give me a reason to smile and feel proud. Nevertheless, they need our help! I work with students with severe disabilities that impact their ability to regulate their emotions and respond in a healthy way to stressful situations. But with your help, we can change that! We can give students the power and opportunity to self-regulate using a zen corner where they will be taught strategies to help regulate their emotional state and find their way back into a learning brain!

If students are allowed to access a bean bag chair of this size and material, it sends a message to their brains that they are safe.

The students will be able to calm down and talk through what they are feeling; they will then be able to join the learning in the classroom more quickly. These students have deficits that impact their ability to learn at the same rate as their peers. Let's give them every opportunity to learn while at school and not let high emotions prevent them from learning new skills.
