Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are art teachers at a Title 1 (high poverty) elementary school with over 80% of the students receiving FARMS (Free And Reduced Meals), and many of them do not have art supplies at home to fully access online art instruction while schools are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Our students are very smart, creative, persistent, and kind! We teach Head Start, pre-k, and kindergarten through 5th grade. Over 880 students will benefit from any supplies given!

All of our students are artists who are diverse, coming from many backgrounds, many of which are immigrants and English Language Learners, speaking different languages, who use art as a universal language to communicate their ideas and feelings.

Despite the many challenges some of them face, our students are resilient artists with many strengths who love to create art and would love the opportunity to do so at home.

Art can be very therapeutic offering a fun, creative outlet which is very necessary during these uncertain, anxiety-provoking times. Your donations would help foster our student artists' creative, academic, social and emotional development, by removing barriers and providing art materials for them to express themselves through art at home.

My Project

Our students at school deserve art supplies to use for online instruction during the difficult time of COVID-19. Many of our students do not have supplies such as paper, crayons, markers, watercolors and brushes to complete artwork during online instruction from home.

Your donations can help our students learn to persist through challenges, think creatively, make cross-curricular connections, communicate their feelings, problem solve as well as learn about different cultures and different perspectives as they navigate online art instruction from home with a variety of their own materials.

Please help us raise enough funds for these materials to be distributed in a timely manner in order for students to let their imaginations explore.

With these supplies, our students will be able to create not only drawings and paintings, but will be taught how to combine these materials with natural materials, and recycled materials to create unique works of art. With your generosity, our students can fully express themselves, learn different art concepts and techniques, as well as use art as a means to cope during difficult times.
