Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Third grade is an exciting year! It is a huge transition year between primary and upper grades. Students start to become more independent learners while the rigor level across the curriculum greatly increases. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and have varying needs. Some of my students have learning disabilities, others have emotional needs, some are gifted learners while others are English language learners. In the end we all come together to create our little classroom family.
Our classroom is a safe, positive, and collaborative learning environment.
One that also allows for students to think critically, experiment and not be afraid to make mistakes. This year my students will be engaged in rigorous tasks that require them to be at the center of their learning.
My Project
This is a project that is close and dear to my heart. When I was a student, I never had the chance to learn a new language. I learned to speak, write and read Spanish at home. It was not until high school that I had the opportunity to "learn Spanish" in the classroom. One of the things I have always wanted to do is give my students an opportunity to practice and/or learn a new language. This year, I am looking to start, for the first time, a Spanish club at my school. I want my students to have an opportunity to learn conversational Spanish and spark their interest and curiosity in other world languages and cultures.
This project includes picture flashcards and games that will help students learn common Spanish words/phrases in a way that is engaging and fun.
I want my students to be excited to learn Spanish. My project also includes a workbook that I will use for students to practice the skills that I will teaching them.
