Giving Students a Voice with iPads

Help me give my students a set of 5 iPads to help empower them to be producers of digital content!

My Students

Our elementary students are engaging in learning opportunities which will build the foundation of lifelong learning. These young students are preparing for an unknown, ever-changing future, and must have the skills needed to pursue a wide range of possible career pathways.

Our students are growing up at a time when access to digital content, the internet, and technology are readily available to many outside of the school day.

Our students are makers, explorers, tinkerers, solution seekers, problem solvers, and creators. They may still have egocentric tendencies at times, but they are also exploring kindness, compassion, sympathy, and empathy.

These 3rd-5th grade students are diverse in their interests, languages, heritages, races, genders, and cultures. They can look across the classroom and see faces which look like theirs, and some which don't. They can hear other voices which sound like their own, and others which they may never have heard before. Our students have a voice to share and ideas to contribute. We just need to provide the tools to let their voices stand out.

My Project

Our students have so much to say! Equipping them with a small set of iPads will allow our students to engage in communication and collaboration, through apps and websites like SeeSaw, Flipgrid, and Padlet. The iPads will allow our students to demonstrate their learning through creative videos, songs, images, and interactive digital presentations. They will use tools like Office 365 and Popplet to organize their learning. They will gain exposure to the world outside their classroom through virtual field trips and Skype sessions. Our students will have the resources to enter into a more personalized learning environment with access to a blended learning format.

With the iPads our students will have the necessary tools to not only capture their voice, but also to share it around the world.

Our students will have regular opportunities to connect their in-school learning with their personal questions, interests, and needs. With these iPads, our students will become empowered to produce menaingful digital content, rather than just consuming it.
