My Students
Working at a Title l school, each one of my students receives free breakfast and lunch. As a school that serves nearly 1,000 students, my students come from a variety of family dynamics, races, backgrounds, and cultures. With a thirst for knowledge and eagerness in their eyes, my students always want to learn as much as they can. Each one of my students demonstrates not only a joy for learning, but a passion to become someone who they are proud to be.
Many of my students do not have the ability at home or in their own community to access books and other resources to help them throughout their journey into being successful individuals.
My role as an educator is not only to continue the spark for their learning but to provide them with every opportunity to succeed. One of the biggest areas in which my students will achieve success is through reading. Each with their own longing for learning, getting their hands on as different resources is my number one mission. For many of my students, our classroom is our home and one of the safest places they have.
My Project
As a new teacher with limited resources in my classroom and school, finding materials for students to use during small group instruction and individualized center time is extremely difficult. I want to give my students every oppertunity to be successful and with these centers I will be able to do so. In first grade, students begin their journey towards becoming more independent and self reliant. In our classroom, my students do just this as they take pride in their work and their learning. With these centers, my students will be able to take another independent grasp on their learning while still having lots of fun!
Having multiple centers will help develop my students phonemic awareness, reading development, and writing skills.
In addition, the materials selected are not only benefical to students academically, but allows them to become more independent through ready-to-use materials. As each child is unique, so is their way of learning. With these centers and roll & write game, students will be able to use a multatude of strategies to assist with their phonemic awareness and writing skills.
