Giving Our Drums Some Dancing Feet!

Help me give my students these conga feet for the 7 djembes we have in our music classroom. This will help my students be able to play the drums by raising it off the floor.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is made up of immigrants from different Hispanic heritages. We are considered a Title I school because our parents are considered low-income. I feel my students are special because many of them come here for the first time to live in a land of opportunity. For many of my students coming to America is a lifelong dream of their parents and will bring them a brighter future.

As their music teacher, I try to bring culture and musical exploration to their lives.

Our music students love to perform. We annually perform in several school-wide concerts throughout the year. We love to sing for a local nursing home during the holiday season, bringing joy to the geriatric residents. In addition, my students enjoy performing at various events throughout Miami. At our school we love to create beautiful music to share with others as a team. Our school is also a center for special education students, many of the students are in wheelchairs. These students, no matter their limitations, love to create music and would benefit from a quality music program.

My Project

My students love drumming, whether it is in our music classes or for performances for our school or in the community. The past few years we have been trying to grow our world drumming ensemble. We received 7 djembes this year, and we are excited to add them to our drum circles. We are hoping to purchase these rubber feet for our djembes to help lift them off the floor, helping my students to play easier and more comfortably. In addition, the rubber feet will help give the drums additional volume and bass making the sound of our drum circles stronger.
